Why should I join?

This type of practice allows us to spend more time with patients to educate them on the importance of wellness, prevention, and managing any chronic medical conditions. We work together with patients to prevent illness and achieve their health care goals in an individualized medical environment.

What does the Membership Fee cover?

The membership fee covers services that are not covered by insurance and Medicare. With attention given to each patient's individual needs, we are able to offer a more personalized practice experience. The fee does not cover copays, deductibles, office visits, lab and radiology testing, or any other services that your insurer/Medicare pays for.

Do you accept Medicare?

Yes, we are preferred providers in the Medicare program. We are not "opting out" of Medicare.

Will my insurance plan cover the membership fee?

Most health insurance plans do not cover the annual membership fee.

What will my insurance cover?

Membership in North Texas Preferred Health Partners will not impact your benefit coverage through your employer. Please see your insurance information for details regarding your personal plan.

Can I pay the fee in installments? Can I pay by credit card?

The membership fee may be paid quarterly or annually or by credit card.

What if I am hospitalized?

North Texas Preferred Health physicians do not directly admit patients to the hospital, but they are on the medical staff at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas (BUMC) and collaborate with our hospital partners. They make visits to check on you during your stay if you are admitted to BUMC and will act as your health care advocate, working with the hospitalists, specialists, and surgeons.

Who will take care of me when my doctor is on vacation?

Your doctor will make every effort to be available at all times - by cell phone and email. In the event that your doctor is unavailable, he/she will have a covering North Texas Preferred Health physician available to you.

Do I still need insurance if I join your practice?

Yes. This practice is not a substitute for health insurance. Membership covers services not typically covered by your insurance.

Do I still pay my co-pay or any other incurred charges outside of insurance?

Yes. Your membership is for services not covered by your insurance plan. You will remain responsible for your co-pay and any other charges that insurance does not cover.

Is the practice limited to a certain number of patients?

Yes. Each physician's practice varies in size, but the number of patients is generally limited to several hundred patients. Physicians in traditional internal medicine practices have patient panels of 2,000-3,000 patients.

Are there benefits to joining if I rarely need a physician?

A long-term relationship with a personal physician has significant benefits regardless of your current age or health status. A focus on wellness and disease prevention is part of individualized care in our practice and a long term relationship with your physician will provide him or her with a volume of information with which to prevent, diagnose, and treat medical illnesses.

What if I need care after hours?

Your personal North Texas Preferred Health physician is available by a 24 hour direct line after office hours.

What if I need to see a specialist?

North Texas Preferred Health physicians can easily coordinate your care with your existing specialists or refer you to excellent physicians in all specialties if needed.

Is it possible to meet with the doctor before making a decision?

Yes. Our staff can schedule you an introductory meeting with one of our physicians to discuss our program and its benefits.
